THE SMALL PRINT

Starting Time 9.00hrs -to- 15.30hrs

 

1/. All participating boats are subject to Boarding and Inspection by Competition Marshal at any time. Boats can make their way out from any port to the designated fishing area, but must not start fishing until 9.00hrs.

 

2/. All participating are to remain within the fishing boundary. This boundary is to be less than a three mile radius of the needles lighthouse. All participating boats will be required to remain in this Area.

 

3/. The Start Time will be signalled by Malpica on VHF Channel 6 (Competition Marshall) at 09.00am EXACTLY.

 

4/. CANCELLATION.  In the event of extreme weather conditions prevailing on the day, the decision to cancel the Competition, taking into consideration the sizes of the smallest boats entered, will be made by Nick Crouch. This decision will be made on the Saturday by 7am. Therefore, any Pre-Registered Competitors should ring the Nick any time after 0700hrs. 07818264677. The Organisers reserve the right to cancel the competition for any reason, giving a full refund to competitors.

 

5/.No two boats shall come together, other than in the case of an emergency.  

 

6/. Competitors shall fish with no more than one rod each.

 

7/. Gill nets, Trawl Nets, or any other form of Commercial Net, Longlines, Deadlines, or Handlines are forbidden. Any boat found using any such equipment will be automatically disqualified, together with all competitors aboard that boat.  

 

8/. Scales will be will close at 6pm EXACTLY. Any fish brought to the scales after the final Weigh-in Time shall be disqualified.

 

9/. The minimum cod size will be the legal requirement of 35cm / 14” in length. (NFSA)

 

10/. All fish other than Prize Fish will be available for collection from the Weigh-in Area half an hour after the last weigh-in.  

 

11/. The Weigh-in Marshal’s report, as to the Winner(s), will be announced in The Gun as soon as the information is available. Any query regarding the Weigh Marshal’s report, must be taken up personally with the Weigh Marshal within fifteen minutes of his report having been announced. Thereafter, the Weigh Marshal’s decision shall be final and irrevocable.    

 

12/. (I) The Winners of the PRIZES, i.e. £200, £150 & £100 SHALL NOT be eligible to win any other prize on the day of the Competition. This is a Cod Only Competition and all prizes will be for Cod ONLY.

 

13/. NB. In the unlikely event of two fish being of exactly the same weight, the following shall apply:-

1St Prize: If two fish of exactly the same weight are weighed–in, the 1st & 2nd prize monies will be added together and each winner will receive half of that total amount, i.e. £175 each.  Also, the next heaviest fish will then qualify for the 3rd Prize.

2nd Prize: If two fish of exactly the same weight are weighed–in, the 2nd & 3rd prize monies will be added together and each winner will receive half of that total amount, i.e. £125 each.

3rd Prize. If two fish of exactly the same weight are weighed–in, the 3rd prize money will halve and each winner will receive £50 each.

 

14/. Should the number of Cod landed be less than the number of prizes available, the prizes outstanding will be allocated to a lucky dip prize fund.

 

15/. In the event of bad weather causing the Competition to be cancelled on both dates, all entry fees will be refundable to the entrants.

 

16/. Any competitor found to be cheating or aiding another competitor to cheat will be disqualified from the competition and any future competitions.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION 

 

1/. FEE.  The Entrance Fee for this Competition shall be £15.00. ONCE BOOKED, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, WILL THERE BE ANY REFUNDS AVAILABLE.

 

2/. INSURANCE. Competitors are required to make their own individual arrangements regarding insurance against personal loss, damage or injury.

 

3/. LIABILITY. Neither to The Gun, the organisers, shall we accept liability for any loss, damage or injury occurring during the course of the Competition.  

 

4/. BAIT. Competitors are required to make their own arrangements regarding the supply of Bait.

 

5/. ANCHOR. Competitors are advised to ensure that they are equipped with an anchor suitable for the individual boat, together with appropriate ground tackle to prevent dragging.  

 

6/. SAFETY. Competitors are warned against overloading small boats and are advised to carry and use, the recommended safety equipment – i.e. compass, life jackets and flares etc.                    

 

7/. RADIO. A VHF radio is advisable for communication with Malpica (Competition Marshall) on Channel 6.  

 

Competitors using Marine VHF are reminded that in order to avoid interfering with HM Coastguards’ Traffic, THE USE OF CHANNEL 16 SHOULD BE KEPT TO THE ABSOLUTE MINIMUM, but in the event of an emergency situation, you should follow the RECOMMENDED EMERGENCY PROCEDURES with HM Coastguards, via Channel 16.
